Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy for Depth Resolved Propellant Analysis

Press Release

Press Release

Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI) has been awarded a contract from the Naval Air Warfare Center to develop a compact, Raman sensor for non-contact, depth resolved measurements of solid rocket motor propellant.

PSI’s system will be designed to detect propellant stabilizers within solid rocket motors without disassembly of the motor. The technology allows for depth resolved Raman analysis of the sample area in order to bypass surface Raman signal that may be contaminated with resin or oxidized. The technology can be applied to applications where Raman is measured through interfaces (such as contaminated surfaces, glass or plastic containers) that emit Raman and fluorescence signals. This includes detection and identification of chemical and biological materials for law enforcement, defense agencies and homeland security.
