FAST™

Laser Detonation Source for Hyperthermal Atomic Oxygen

Tunable 2 – 11 eV Atomic Oxygen Source for LEO Testing

FAST™ is a laser detonation source used to produce high flux atomic oxygen (AO) beams with tunable velocity over the range 5 – 12 km/s (2 – 11 eV energy). FAST™ is recognized as the gold standard for atomic oxygen testing for low earth applications and is used by multiple organizations around the world to conduct LEO related R&D efforts (e.g. materials effects, plume signatures, energy accommodation, etc.). PSI builds and delivers AO systems (AO source, vacuum chamber, control system and software) to customer’s specifications. PSI also provides AO testing services, including accelerated exposure of materials to the AO fluence that will be experienced between 1 month and 3 years at the space station altitude (400 km).

FAST™
