PSI has developed an optical waveguide transmission cable to collect high quality mirror-focused solar power and relay it using fiber optic cables to processes needing efficient power for heat generation. The system concentrates solar flux ~1000x (1.3 kW/m2 to 1.3 MW/m2. The cable was developed to support the NASA Carbothermal Reduction Demonstration (CaRD) for oxygen production from Lunar regolith simulant.
