Propulsion and Power Systems
PSI’s portable power solutions help ensure that users always have operational sensor systems and equipment.
Increasing sensor and electrical loads for forward operators is driving the need for power generation while on-the-move and at rest. PSI is responding with a family of power generation devices that employs various energy sources and power output levels. All are lightweight and rugged.
These include:
Gas Turbine Engines
Multi-spool Turbine Portable Genset (MTPG)
PSI will develop a portable (2-man lift) genset for power generation during forward operations and range extension for future electric vehicle operations.
Key Features:
- 90% reduction in weight compared to existing military gensets
- 40 kWe output, selectable 120/208 VAC
- Four-person lift into and out of vehicles
Benefit to Warfighter/Customer:
- Range extension for future electric tactical vehicles
- Recharging for warfighter equipment batteries
- Makes additional cargo space available
Electrical Power Generation
On-board and Deployable Power Generation Technology
PSI is developing a range of solutions to export power directly from the engines of military vehicles and from the surrounding environment in combat.
Capability Description: PSI is developing technologies that pair directly with military vehicles such as the MRZR Alpha Ultra-Light Tactical Vehicle (ULTV) to generate up to 15 kW on-board power. PSI is also actively developing compact and rapidly deployable electrical generators that are driven by renewable resources including hydropower, wind and solar.
Key Features:
- Compact 15 kW alternator designed for the MRZR Alpha platform
- Rapidly deployable, modular hydroelectric generator
- Solar powered multistage flash (MSF) technology to distill potable water
Benefit to Warfighter/Customer:
Power generation in the field is a key element in enabling fast moving, forward operating missions. On-board power generation solutions will enable the next generation of vehicle mounted directed energy weapons (DEW) and advanced communications equipment. Renewable power generation lowers the cost of fuel transport and increases mission capabilities in contested environments. Beyond military applications, PSI’s energy generation solutions are designed to aid in disaster relief and to serve the commercial off-grid electrical generation, camping and outdoors markets.
