Microwave Assisted pharmaceutical Freeze-Drying (MAFD)
PSI, in collaboration with UConn, is developing databases and models to support the development of next generation microwave assisted pharmaceutical lyophilization. Under support from the FDA, PSI is measuring fundamental microwave absorption properties of example pharmaceutical product formulations that will be combined with heat and mass transfer models of lyophilization to enable industry to develop dedicated microwave assisted dryers and processes appropriate for regulated pharmaceutical products.
