Physical Sciences Inc., located north of Boston in Andover, MA is looking for well-qualified students interested in a 2025/2026 full-time or part-time position with our Materials group. We are seeking a motivated Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering candidate to join our team and assist with hands-on process development, hands-on building of reactor systems and testing. The ideal candidate will have proficiency in soldering and basic electronics assembly to support equipment setup, instrumentation, and sensor integration.  In addition, the candidate will have a solid foundation in engineering principles such as thermodynamics, process control, modeling and design as well as practical experience with laboratory hands-on experiments. The candidate will collaborate with engineers to conduct experiments, analyze data, and contribute to process improvements. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn in a multidisciplinary environment are essential.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in laboratory chemical process experiments
  • Support prototype fabrication and system assembly involving sensors, valves, and tubing
  • Interpret wiring and cable diagrams
  • Perform soldering and basic electronics integration for instrumentation and data collection setups
  • Collect, analyze, and document experimental data
  • Collaborate with engineers on process optimization and troubleshooting
  • Contribute to technical reports and presentations summarizing findings
  • Component modeling and design

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of engineering programming (MATLAB, Python, etc.)
  • Aptitude with basic electronics (soldering, wiring, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation (e.g., pumps, sensors, reactors, flow systems)
  • General hands-on engineering knowledge/experience

­Other Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in chemical engineering or mechanical engineering with at least two years of education
  • Must have some prior hands-on experience (research, previous internships or similar positions, related extra-curricular activities, etc.)

Hourly Wage Range $21-$27
