Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI), located just north of Boston, MA seeks a rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior with experience in Mechanical or Materials Engineering for an internship supporting our projects in high-temperature Ceramic Matrix Composite development.
PSI’s Advanced Composites group is developing carbon-fiber based Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) to be used in extreme environments such as the hot sections of rockets or turbine engines. We conduct a large amount of characterization on these materials to check for defects during production and test their limits. We are seeking a summer intern to help with quality control, testing, and the accompanying data analysis.
The responsibilities of the intern supporting this project include:
- Conducting QC checks via various Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) methods on CMC components (Flash IR thermography, UT scanning, CT scanning)
- Preparing test specimens and conducting mechanical and thermal testing
- Analyzing and tabulating both NDE and thermomechanical test results
- Assisting in fabrication & processing of CMC structures for flight vehicles
During this internship, the candidate will work with experts in the field to gain experience performing NDE checks, thermal and mechanical testing of materials, sample preparation, and materials data analysis.
This internship may be most beneficial for students pursuing degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or Composites Engineering.
Hourly Wage Range : $20-$35
Candidates must be a US citizen.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
