Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI), located just north of Boston, MA seeks a rising junior or senior with laboratory experience in plant biology, physics, mechanical or electrical engineering for an internship supporting our project to develop a field-deployable fluorescence imaging system.

PSI is developing a new type of fluorescence lifetime imaging technology that enables non-destructive determination of plant metabolism and microbial systems. This project will result in a new technology that allows researchers to collect field-based data and monitor physiological and biochemical responses of plants and microbial communities in their natural environments.

The responsibilities of the intern supporting this project include:

  • Assist PSI scientists to assemble and test prototype fluorescence imagers.
  • Participate in instrument testing experiments during plant biology studies at a collaborating institution.
  • Collect and analyze experimental data.
  • Present results and findings to team members.

During this internship, the candidate will work with experts in the field to gain experience in developing and testing advanced fluorescence / optical imaging instruments, computer programing, data analysis, and scientific presentation/communication skills.

This internship may be most beneficial for students pursuing degrees in plant biology, physics, optical engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering.

US Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency is required.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
