Biopharmaceutical Analytical Instrument Development Scientist

Physical Sciences Inc., located north of Boston in Andover, MA, seeks a self-motivated scientist to support development of bio-processing analytical technologies. Our goal is to develop novel analytical tools for adoption by the pharmaceutical industry to improve biopharmaceutical manufacturing productivity and efficiency. This scientist should have experience in developing new optical imaging and spectroscopic technologies (primary) or expertise in bioprocess development (secondary), or both. This position involves working with an experienced team of scientists, engineers and program managers to develop novel hardware/software solutions to address emerging technology needs in the biotech R&D and biopharmaceutical industry. A strong desire and ability to pursue independent research programs is desirable. Candidates with one or more of the following credentials are encouraged to apply:

  • Optical spectroscopy and imaging instrumentation: Prior experience developing optical spectroscopy instrumentation for biomedical or biochemical research, clinical and pharmaceutical applications. Hands-on skills with optical system assembly, alignment, testing, and trouble-shooting are a must-have requirement.
  • Bioprocess analytical technology development: Prior experience developing optical spectroscopy or imaging based analytical technologies for characterization of bioreactor cell culture processes.
  • Bioprocess development and research: Prior experience developing and operating biomanufacturing bioreactors, cell culture skills and experimental experience handling cell cultures.
  • PhD in Applied Physics, Optics, Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, or Biochemistry is required. Postdoctoral or industrial research experience is highly desirable. A strong record of technical leadership documented by a record of peer-reviewed technical publications is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are needed.
