Materials Systems
PSI’s Materials Systems division encompasses a wide array of capabilities spanning both fundamental material development and energetic applications. The Materials Group provides extensive expertise in the formulation and analysis of advanced functional materials, including engineered sorbents (such as MOFs and mesoporous silicas), thermal management materials, and specialized coatings for EMI shielding and antimicrobial treatments.
Additionally, PSI has developed high-strength composites via cellulosic waste upcycling and employs core competencies in chemical synthesis and process intensification to scale these materials effectively. Complementing this, the Propulsion and Energetics team applies these capabilities to develop energetic solutions, ranging from the synthesis of energetic ingredients to the fabrication of rocket motor hardware. This dual approach allows PSI to solve complex engineering problems by developing custom materials tailored to the rigorous requirements of aerospace and defense systems.
