Compressive Sensing Flash LADAR

Capability Description: Compact IR 3D range imaging sensor employing compressive sensing (CS) for deployment on small ground and air robotic platforms.

Key features

  • Flash illumination with an 808 nm modulated VCSEL that is spatially encoded by a digital micromirror device with a Walsh Hadamard measurement bases,
  • An APD receiver that detects the dot product between Walsh Hadamard masks and diffusely reflected laser light from the scene,
  • A phase recovery module to extract the (compressed) range-depend phase of the received signal, and
  • A CS reconstruction module to build 3D range images from the compressed phase measurements at video frame rate.

Benefits: Significantly higher point cloud density than commercial scanning LADARs enabling higher fidelity obstacle detection at a comparable form factor and cost.
