Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI), located just north of Boston, MA seeks a graduate student with experience in the fiber lasers for an internship supporting our project entitled Ground Based Uplink and Beacon Laser for Long Range Communications
PSI is developing a new class of laser based on metal doped fibers that will operate at very high power and repetition rate. At this high average power, the laser will use customized fiber components such as the gain fiber in order to maintain good beam quality which may be corrupted otherwise due to thermal instability. We are seeking an intern to assist with the following tasks:
- Assist PSI scientists in assembling and testing fiber lasers and amplifiers
- Handle fibers and fiber-based components such as combiners and mode filled adaptors. Splice and recoat fibers when needed.
- Record and analyze data
- Present results and findings to team members
During this internship, the candidate will work with experts in the field to gain experience in splicing fibers (especially between dissimilar fibers), computer programing, data analysis, and scientific presentation/communication skills.
This internship may be most beneficial for students pursuing degrees in Physics, Optics, lasers, chemistry, biomedical etc.
US Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency is required.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
