Physical Sciences Inc., located just north of Boston in Andover, has a career opportunity for an experienced Chemical Engineer with a strong background in materials synthesis, reactor design, and chemical characterization. Additional knowledge of process engineering and techno-economic modeling is preferred. The engineer will join a team that develops and scales new material production technologies from laboratory-scale/batch processes to pilot-scale/continuous processes. Target technologies include development of sorbent materials for gas phase capture, continuous production of environmentally-friendly fuels, and separation of rare earth elements from coal combustion products.
We are seeking candidates with a PhD (0-3 years’ experience) or Masters (3+ years’ experience) in Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline. The ideal candidate will have interest in hands-on experimental work in the laboratory as well as process implementation in the field.
The candidate will help the team identify and develop new technology focus areas, manage and lead projects to achieve program objectives, and communicate results to the team, management and external organizations through presentations and technical reports.
The candidate should be proficient in laboratory techniques and analytical instrumentation, such as SEM, ICP-OES, BET, TGA, GC-MS, UV-Vis, and FTIR. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable with process engineering and design tools, such as ASPEN Plus and Comsol (or equivalent). The successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, chemists, and industrial partners to transition processes from the laboratory to industrial production.
