Thermal Environment Simulation
PSI has pioneered the use of high power lasers to simulate severe thermal environments for the evaluation of high temperature and thermal protection materials. The process of understanding high temperature materials response involves thermal testing, modeling and high temperature properties determination. The laser is an NIST calibrated heat source in a controlled laboratory environment that provides unique opportunities for the quantitative evaluation of material response. Materials can be tested with greater control of heating rates than previously available. Accurate measurement of heated surface temperatures using PSI radiometers provides quality thermal response data which is a stringent test of thermal response models.
