Thermal Barrier Coating

PSI is developing two types of sprayable aerogel coatings. The first coating type uses thermal spray to deposit a robust, low thermal conductivity coating to thicknesses up to 1 cm. The second coating type uses a binder that polymerizes as the coating is deposited. The maximum exposure temperatures are in the range of 1500°C and 500°C, respectively.
