PSI is developing sensor system concepts for guidance of unmanned aerial vehicles in cluttered environments while avoiding obstacles. The guidance system concept is based primarily on optical sensors that are patterned after insect vision and its neural processing, however, it is augmented by man-made systems such as GPS. This program is sponsored by the US Air Force and will involve simulations as well as prototype hardware to demonstrate feasibility of biomimetic flight sensors.
