Core Competencies

Core competences include electrochemical sciences (battery science, electrochromics, electrolyte chemistry, fuel cells, pLEDs, multifunctional and 3D energy storage); nanotechnology (electrospinning, CNT nanofiber and tow production, metal organic hybrid materials); materials chemistry (energetic materials, polymer chemistry, and materials formulation) and polymer technology (polymer processing, device fabrication, electrospun membrane modeling and testing, and high performance polymers).

Current Research Thrusts Include:
  • Next Generation Super Carbon Fiber:

  • - Sponsor: DARPA/DSO

    - Objectives: Fabricate Electrospun carbon and SWNT nanofiber tows for composite applications.

  • Low Temperature Infrared Electochromic Materials for IR Modulation

  • - Sponsor: AF/AEDC

    - Objectives: Develop an electrochromic beamsplitter to operate at 20 K for mid- and near-wave IR optical applications.

  • Quantum Dot pLEDs for operation in the NIR

  • - Sponsor: Navy/China Lake

    - Objectives: Develop agile pLED for emission of NIR light for IFF applications.

  • Electroactive Polymer-based Separator for Li ion Batteries

  • - Sponsor: DOE

    - Objectives: Develop separator membrane for preventing overcharging of Li ion batteries for transpotation.
