Photonics

The mission of the Photonics Enterprise is to identify or invent advanced electro-optical technologies and to incorporate these technologies into system level solutions for our industrial, military, and research customers.  Core competencies include:  lasers and laser-based sensors, non-linear optical materials, atomic physics for precision metrology, nano- and micro-fabrication of optical devices, molecular spectroscopy, and high temperature gas dynamics.  Current activities focus on:  compact and inexpensive diode laser-based sensors for greenhouse gas monitoring networks; cold-atom sensors of fields, forces, and time; acoustic sensor networks for intrusion monitoring; and THz sensors for NDE.
