T. Nakamura, B. Comaskey, M. Bell, "Development of Optical Components for Space-Based Solar Power System for ISRU and Regenerative Life Support," AIAA 2002-0462, presented at 40th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit (Reno, NV) , (14-17 January 20022002).
AbstractThis paper summarizes the results of a program to develop key components for the Optical Waveguide (OW) Solar Plant System. In the OW solar power system, solar radiation is collected by the concentrator which transfers the concentrated solar radiation to the OW transmission line consisting of low-loss optical fibers. The OW line transmits the solar radiation to the location where the solar radiation is utilized for materials processing or plant lighting. Key components for the OW system studied include: the concentrator; the optical fiber; the cable connector; and thermal reactor/solar lighting devices. sr-1091
