Testing Process Control Instruments

A manufacturer of process control instrumentation found that an instrument for measuring trace gas species in hot combustion gas did not always provide reasonable gas concentrations in the field. They suspected that the construction materials for a key component of the instrument were reacting with the gas. PSI used its entrained flow reactor facility to generate hot combustion gas of the right composition and identified material-dependent catalytic effects which impacted the measurement accuracy.
