Commercial Applications of Planar Laser-Induced Fluorescence (PLIF)

A major Japanese manufacturer of fused silica for fiber optics was developing new methods for flame synthesis of glass, and we explored the potential for adapting PSI-developed PLIF for measuring the temperature distribution in one of their research flame reactors. We developed a strategy for PLIF thermometry based on molecules naturally present in the flame, supported initial demonstrations in their facility, reduced the experimental data, and trained their personnel in the utilization of PLIF thermometry.
