Image analysis is the application of a variety of signal extraction methods to enable and enhance the acquisition of useful information from an acquired image of an object or scene. Such methods can range from conventional computational techniques such as background subtraction and contrast enhancement (including spectral contrast), to more sophisticated algorithms for the extraction and/or recognition of a variety of spatial patterns within the image. PSI scientists and engineers have expertise in a wide variety of image analysis methods, which we have applied to detect, classify, size, and count numerous kinds of objects/features of interest within acquired images. Applications include remote surveillance and monitoring for aerospace, defense, and environmental monitoring needs, as well as the advanced analysis of medical diagnostic images.
