Fluorescence image of anemone (Phymanthus crucifer). Pedro Bank, Jamaica.
Depth 12 meters. This anemone exhibited the most spectacular fluorescence I have seen yet, with intense oranges, yellows and greens mixed in one specimen. Of course I came upon it when I was out of film at the end of a night dive, but I was able to get back to it the following night. The anemone spent much of its time folded up (it got a tremendous feast from the plentiful critters attracted to my dive light) so I had to spend the entire dive next to it in darkness, using only moonlight to see, and wait until it opened a bit so that I could snap one or two pictures at a time. I shot a full roll and still came up with only one good image. |
