Scientific Programmer
(Job Code: SCP)
Physical Sciences Inc, located in Andover, MA seeks a highly qualified candidate to join a growing information exploitation research group (within our Defense Systems Division) who has an interest in transitioning academic research into real-world applications related to spectral analysis and chem-bio defense systems. The successful candidate will support existing and new-start research programs funded by various government agencies including DARPA, AFRL, ONR, DTRA, JPEO-CBD, and others. This job announcement is an exciting opportunity to be on the ground floor of a program to use passive multispectral imagery of hazardous gas clouds, coupled with the techniques of computed tomography, to produce real-time three dimensional profiles of these clouds as they move through battlefield, test range, and civilian environments. This complex problem requires the use of sophisticated background estimation and single-pixel target signature matching algorithms coupled with the use of tomographic algorithms that have to react to dynamic changes in sensor positioning and pointing. Our approach will culminate in the demonstration of a networked sensor system that exploits these approaches to dynamically track clouds over hundreds of square kilometers from both ground and airborne platforms. We are seeking candidates with PHD, MS or 10+ years experience in computer science, imaging science or related field. Skill required will include scientific application development to implement image processing algorithms. The candidate should be proficient in MATLAB, IDL and C/C++ programming languages and have a strong background in image processing, remote sensing or spectral applications. Experience in application design and multi-threading for parallel processing a plus. Familiarity in knowledge based system and learning machines would be helpful. Specific responsibilities will include working with Principle Investigators on developing applications to support information processing, algorithm development and end-to-end system development. Candidates will be evaluated not only for their ability to powerfully contribute to these programs, but also their ability, enthusiasm and vision for developing future research programs through identifying high-value opportunities and over time producing a successful track record in proposal outcomes. Previous success in these types of activities is a plus, but is not necessarily required for the available positions (especially for candidates early in their career). Candidates should have a Ph.D. or MS with 10 years of experience.
- US Citizenship Required.
