The Result: AIRIS has been successfully transitioned from its sensor concept demonstration phase to the point where we are developing application-specific configurations for a range of commercial and military customers.

The Challenge: Gossamer Spacecraft are lightweight, large-scale, deployable spacecraft that will enable revolutionary, light-gathering and transmitting capabilities for solar sails, telescopes, power collection and communications.

The Result: Development of the fast atom source has led to a very significant commercial material testing program at PSI. We have also sold several systems worldwide with two presently operational in Europe, one in Japan, and two in the USA.

The Result: This product development activity led to a technology license agreement between PSI and the instrument manufacturer, Heath Industries. The product will be introduced into the commercial marketplace in April of 2003, with product delivery scheduled for January 2004, thus completing the final stage of the PSI process.
