Senior Systems Engineer

Research Support Instruments, a wholly owned subsidiary of Physical Sciences Inc., and a dynamic 100% employee-owned business, has an immediate need for a multidisciplinary individual to lead a talented team of engineers in the development of the next generation space borne compact coronagraphs (CCOR). The individual will work closely with Naval Research Laboratories personnel (NRL) for multiple space weather and heliospheric imaging sensors on various satellites.

Prior experience in optical and mechanical system design for space flight hardware and engineering team leadership is required. Responsibilities include oversight and guidance of the development, design, analyses, hardware development, integration and test operations and data analysis. Demonstrated performance over the complete space instrumentation lifecycle including thermal and mechanical performance drivers is required.

Desirable expertise includes optical metrology, design, stray-light analysis, flight hardware design, test system development and certification, and optical remote sensor concept design and development. Candidate must possess knowledge of telescopes, cameras, focal plane arrays, optical element/system design, image analysis as they impact optical system performance.

MS Degree in Physics, Optics, or Systems Engineering with 5+ years’ experience or BS Degree with 10+ years’ experience. A strong systems background in the engineering development of space flight hardware is required.

This position is located in the Washington DC area.
