Interface Software Engineer

Interface Software Engineer

PSI - Boston, MA
Full-time
Bachelors

Physical Sciences Inc., located just north of Boston in Andover, is looking for an Interface Software Engineer to contribute to a number of programs developing advanced prototypes of novel, electro-optical sensors. The candidate will work with a technical team focused on addressing emerging remote imaging and detection applications for a range of government and industry customers. Our development strategy typically spans concept inception through the production of high fidelity prototypes that undergo significant field testing. Our sensors have been tested over a range of operationally relevant environments including maritime, desert, and from airborne platforms. The candidate will generate software designs for these sensors ranging from laboratory breadboards through advanced prototypes.

Specifically, the candidate will develop software to interface with electro-optical devices and hardware on one end and real-time automated detection algorithms on the other end. Hardware device controls include but are not limited to cameras, detectors, light sources, lasers and actuators. The algorithm interface includes high bandwidth data preprocessing for input to advanced detection algorithms. User interface development experience is required. Experience in detection algorithm development is desirable but not required.

The candidate must have programming experience in Labview, C/C++ and Python operating in both Windows and Linux environments. Experience with CUDA or OpenCL, Qt (or equivalent) and OpenCV is highly desirable. The candidate must have familiarity with programming and hardware requirements for serial communication using RS-232 (traditional as well as TTL), UART (e.g. USB 2, USB 3) as well as more general communication using SPI, I2C and Ethernet. Familiarity with RS-485, CAN, LVDS, GPIB and methods of converting between disparate interfaces is a plus but not required. A desire to participate in field testing events is a plus.

A Masters’ degree with two years of post-degree industry experience or a Bachelors’ degree with four years of post-degree industry experience is ideal. Bright people looking for a break between their undergraduate and graduate education are encouraged to apply.

US Citizenship is required.
