Chemical Engineer/Scientist

Chemical Engineer/Scientist

PSI - Boston, MA

Physical Sciences Inc., located just north of Boston in Andover, is looking for scientists to conduct research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) of innovative critical technologies for advanced propulsion and munitions systems. Emphasis is focused on laboratory scale and pilot scale processing of ingredients and formulations for fuels, oxidizers, propellants, and explosives.

We are seeking multiple individuals with strong backgrounds in hands-on chemical processing and laboratory instrumentation to join a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists. These individuals will play key roles in growing a diverse portfolio of technologies funded by the DoD and NASA. Multiple job openings exist in the areas of chemical formulation, where fuels, oxidizers, propellants, and/or explosives must be advanced by improving their formulations. High performance energetic materials are then evaluated using a range of thermochemical and thermophysical characterization tests at the lab scale and at PSI’s outdoor test range. Work will be performed at PSI’s headquarters in Andover, MA as well as PSI’s propulsion and energetics testing complex in Epping, NH.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable with digital scanning calorimetry (DSC), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), bomb calorimetry, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Experience with shear mixers is a plus.

BS degree plus at least 2 years of post-college experience in RDT&E in related disciplines, or a Master’s degree, in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science is required.

US Citizenship is required with the ability to obtain a security clearance.
